A Forum Suggestion

(Christopher Archer) #1

It may be too late for this idea, But it would be nice it themes had their own forum separate from scripts and add-ons. It would make finding new themes and discussions about themes easy to find !

(Bart Veldhuizen) #2

We’ll start with the existing categories and may prune/add where needed. This particular case may be easy to solve by adding a #theme tag though?

(Cal McGaugh) #3

Is there a way to change the font color globally & in the post?
Not enough contrast for easy reading.

Also, is there a way to disable the ads or are they helping to pay
for the site?

(Caetano Veyssières) #4

ads in websites are always helping to pay for the site.
As for your question about font color, it is in no way related to this topic, so I’d suggest you create a new one.
Other than that, I don’t personally have an answer to this question.

(Bart Veldhuizen) #5

The site costs are substantial, so yes I’ll need a way to fund it. Ads will go a long way towards that.

I’m also considering adding a way to support Blender Artists through Patreon too - such members could get an extra ‘badge’ on their profile picture. Would you be up for that?

And yes, regarding the color scheme, please open a new topic and make a proposal.

(Caetano Veyssières) #6

Ha ! I was just about to ask you if you would consider creating a Patreon !
And yeah I’d be up for that, although I’m balanced about the badge concept (on one side it informs those who may not know about the possibility to be a donator and on the other side it can be a way to show off and try to look better by using money, and not everyone has much of that)

(Bart Veldhuizen) #7

One option is to give people the choice if they want the badge to be shown or not.

(Caetano Veyssières) #8

yeah I would like that

(Cal McGaugh) #9

I would be willing to use Parteon. The ads are very annoying…a big turnoff.
How did BA.org get enough money to keep it going without ads? If they
could do it, BA2.0 should, too.

How large is the user base here? Can the ads be blocked per account if the user
contributes a certain amount or only if you get a certain amount in total?
How many would you need to donate $1/mo to keep the ads out? $2, $3, etc?

I think a lot of users would be willing to donate to keep things together.
BA.org feels like home. I hope BA2.0 will, too.

(Caetano Veyssières) #10

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. The old blenderartists.org does have ads to keep the website up and running.

(Cal McGaugh) #11

I don’t see any ads unless you mean the Blender course(?)
Now there’s H&R Block, Best Buy, etc. Totally unacceptable.

(Cal McGaugh) #12

What ads?

annoying ads

(sorry…image didn’t show up in previous post)

(Bart Veldhuizen) #13

The ‘old’ Blender Artists had CG Cookie behind them for funding; I won’t have that luxury  I’d love it if we could remove ads for Patrons - I’ll definitely look in to that. And if it can’t be done automatically you can always ad-block them and still feel good about being a supporter!

(Cal McGaugh) #14

How do you block them? Does it depend on the browser?
That would make a huge difference in usability, at least for me.

(Bart Veldhuizen) #15

With an ad blocker

(Cal McGaugh) #16

Thanks! I didn’t know about ad blockers…AdBlock for Chrome fixed it.

(Bart Veldhuizen) #17

Please DO keep in mind that running sites costs real money! I’ll start thinking about the Patreon support.

(Caetano Veyssières) #18

Do you think you will support Brave payments ?

(Bart Veldhuizen) #19

I’m not sure it’s worth it as that is still very very small.

(Caetano Veyssières) #20

ok, I must say after some time using Brave it appears to be still at an early stage of its development anyway.

However, I’m increasingly interested in liberapay. More and more open source projects are jumping into it (GIMP did just 2 days ago) and I love its concept. What do you think about this platform ?
